A young politician and community mobilizer in Ebubu, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, Samuel Obe Ngobe, has been killed by gunmen suspected to be assassins.
GISTSMATE MEDIA gathered on Monday that the incident occurred on May 22 when the assailants invaded a hotel in the community owned by the deceased and shot him dead.
The two suspects, who were masked, invaded the area on a motorbike and went straight to the politician and opened fire on him.
It was also gathered that the assailants carted away cell phones from the hotel workers to prevent them from raising an alarm.
When contacted by DAILY POST on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Command, Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, confirmed the killing.
In another development, the Kwara State Police Command has confirmed a deadly midnight attack by suspected bandits on Yashikira community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, during which part of the palace of the Emir of Yashikira was set ablaze and 10 residents abducted.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, also targeted the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters, although police operatives on duty reportedly repelled the assault on the station.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the spokesperson of the command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.
According to the statement, the armed attackers stormed the community at about 2:00 a.m. in what the police described as a coordinated and desperate assault. READ MORE
