Trump Jokes About Having ‘Threesome’ With His Sons

United States President Donald Trump stirred reactions on Wednesday after making a joke about having a “threesome” with his two eldest sons while speaking at the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in North Dakota.

Trump made the remark during a speech in Medora as he spoke about the Medal of Honor and father-son recipients of the United States’ highest military award.

“Except for Arthur and Douglas MacArthur … they’re the only father and son pair to receive our nation’s highest military award for courage above and beyond the call of duty. Now, as I see my two beautiful sons sitting there, I think I’m going to give one to myself, one to them, and we’ll have a threesome,” he joked.

The comment drew audible reactions from the audience, prompting Trump to quickly change course and suggest he would instead give the honour to only one of his sons, alongside himself, even though neither of his sons nor Trump has served in the military.

“Ok, I’ll pick out one of the two. I’ll give them the Congressional Medal of Honor for something for their genius at hunting, and I’ll get one for taking on Russia, Russia, Russia, or something, and we’ll have a third pair now,” he said before adding that he was “only kidding.”

The remark was the second time Trump had joked in a matter of hours about awarding the military decoration to himself.

Earlier in the day, Trump handed over Theodore Roosevelt’s Medal of Honor, which had been part of the White House collection, to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, a former governor of North Dakota, during the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new library.

“You know, I want to give one to myself, but they tell me, and I’m allowed to,” he said.

Trump also said he dropped the idea after his two eldest sons told him they could not think of anything he had done to merit the medal, which is awarded for “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty.”

The comment came toward the end of a lengthy and meandering appearance in North Dakota, where Trump turned the library opening into a political speech filled with attacks on opponents, praise for his administration and criticism of past presidents.

During the event, Trump said Theodore Roosevelt would not have approved of former Democratic presidents, including former President Joe Biden.

Roosevelt, he said, “transformed his country by the reach of his vision into one of the greatest places, one of the greatest empires, one of the most incredible countries, ready to take its rightful place as the strongest and most respected nation anywhere in the world.”

“They didn’t have people that didn’t, couldn’t, they had no idea where they were. They didn’t have people that couldn’t walk up the steps, see those steps. They didn’t have people that had no idea where the hell they were. They didn’t have people that said, “Let’s have open borders, so millions and millions of people can pour into our country from prisons all over the world. They didn’t have those people. They had strong, smart people like Teddy Roosevelt,” Trump said.

He went on to repeat his familiar claim that the United States is now “stronger and more respected” under his leadership, while also reviving a line he often attributes to Saudi Arabia’s King Salman about America being “the hottest country.”

Even as he followed his prepared speech, Trump repeatedly broke away from the subject of the library dedication to make political remarks, including criticism of the previous administration’s border policy.

“We do pretty good. Thank you. We have the best border, strongest border. We went from the worst border in history in three months to the best border in history, so we do okay,” Trump said just before returning to an anecdote about how Roosevelt had once been “crushed” by a horse.
