TRENDING: Why I Can Bet Money On Tinubu’s Re-election In 2027 — Davido

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he would bet money on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu being re-elected, citing the division among opposition politicians ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Davido made this known in an interview with News Central on Tuesday while discussing the political situation in Nigeria and the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.

According to him, several politicians in the South are already interested in contesting for president, making it difficult for the opposition to present a united front against Tinubu.

He questioned why the politicians could not come together and work towards a common objective, arguing that a united opposition could pose a serious challenge to the president.

Davido said the situation would require significant effort to change, but added that the outcome of the recently concluded Osun State governorship election showed that there was still hope.

He said, “The opposition now in Nigeria, if they’re going to say, ‘OK, David, put your money down, this one, I have to decide.’ It is not, ‘Oh, I don’t want to be involved in the presidential election.’ I might say, ‘OK, I think the president might walk over on it’ because the opposition is divided.

“In the South alone, almost eight people want to be president. Why can’t all of you guys sit down together? Because let me tell you, if there was a unified opposition, presidents might have a problem. But they’re not unified.

“So it’s going to take a lot. But for what happened in Osun, there’s still hope. All the youths in Nigeria were the future, were the ones in charge now.”

The singer had earlier distanced himself from Nigerian politics, saying he had no interest in participating in the country’s political system, which he described as “evil.”

Davido made the remarks in a post on X while reacting to criticism over his support for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, during the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.

He said his involvement in the election was based on family loyalty, stressing that he did not mobilise anyone or depend on external support while backing his uncle.

“I brought no one! No one defended me! I backed my family on my own!!” Davido wrote.

He also criticised those who faulted his involvement in the election, describing their actions as “ruthless” and “disgusting.”

The musician said he had fulfilled what he considered his responsibility and would not remain involved in political activities.

“I have done my job! Nigerian politics is evil AND I DON’T WANT TO BE A PART OF IT TILL GOD HELPS US!” he said.

Davido was among the prominent figures who campaigned for Adeleke during the Osun governorship race.

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
