FLASH: OK Movement DG Resigns, Gives Reasons

The crisis within the OK Movement deepened on Tuesday as its Director-General, High Chief Peter Ameh, resigned from his position with immediate effect, citing his ambition to contest the 2027 Kogi East Senatorial election.

Ameh announced his resignation in Abuja, a development that has thrown the movement’s supporters into fresh uncertainty as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

In a resignation letter sent to Vanguard on Tuesday, Ameh said his decision was necessary to enable him concentrate fully on his senatorial campaign under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

He wrote, “I hereby formally tender my resignation as Director-General of the OK Movement, effective immediately.

“This decision will enable me to devote the necessary time and energy to my campaign for the Kogi East Senatorial District, where I am the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.”

Despite stepping down as the movement’s Director-General, Ameh stressed that his resignation would not affect his loyalty to the NDC or his support for its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, whom he described as “My leader.”

The former DG said he would respect whatever decision Obi makes regarding his replacement.

Ameh stated, “I humbly accept any individual appointed by my leader to succeed me in this role.”

He also expressed appreciation to Obi, saying his leadership and personal qualities were central to the formation of the OK Movement.

“I wish to express my profound gratitude to my leader, Mr. Peter Obi, for his exemplary leadership, unwavering integrity, and enduring credibility. These qualities inspired the formation of the OK Movement and have continued to shape its vision and purpose,” he said.

Ameh added, “I remain firmly committed to the ideals that united us and wish the OK Movement every success in its future endeavours.”

His resignation comes against the backdrop of an earlier factional leadership crisis within the movement, with some members openly challenging Ameh’s leadership.

The latest development is therefore expected to intensify scrutiny of the movement’s leadership structure and its ability to maintain cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.

With political realignments gathering pace, the OK Movement now faces the task of resolving its internal differences and establishing a new leadership capable of steering its activities into the 2027 election cycle.
