The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has described African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore as a “skit maker” following his request to use the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, for a campaign event ahead of the 2027 general elections.
GISTSMATE MEDIA had earlier reported that Sowore’s party asked President Bola Tinubu to approve the use of Aso Rock for the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council scheduled for November 11, 2026.
The party also requested food, drinks and other logistical support for 5,000 participants expected at the event, citing multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness and equal treatment of political parties.
Reacting to the request during an interview on Channels TV, Basiru questioned Sowore’s political standing and challenged him to first secure a seat in a state House of Assembly before expecting to be taken seriously as a politician.
“Sowore is a skit maker. Let him struggle to even get a seat in the House of Assembly as a politician, and then people will begin to take him seriously,” the APC national secretary said.
Basiru also criticised the AAC’s electoral performance, claiming that rejected ballot papers received more votes than the party in the 2023 general elections.

In its letter to Tinubu, dated October 21, 2026, the AAC argued that approving its request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to fairness and equal access to public institutions.
The party also cited arrangements reportedly extended to the ruling APC for a similar political engagement as justification for its request.
The AAC said it expected the Presidency to communicate the procedures and conditions applicable to the approval.
The Presidency’s response to the request had not been established in the information available for this report.
