The Abia state police command says its operatives have recovered 28 human skulls and other bones during a raid on suspected criminal camps in the forests of Umuaku-Isuochi and Nneato in Umunneochi LGA.
Maureen Chinaka, the command’s spokesperson, said in a statement that the raid was conducted last Saturday as part of ongoing intelligence-led operations across the state.
Chinaka said the operation followed a directive by Wilfred Afolabi, commissioner of police in Abia.
According to the police spokesperson, the operatives involved personnel from the violent crime response unit (VCRU), anti-kidnapping unit, anti-cultism unit, intelligence response unit (IRU), rapid response squad (RRS), and Isuochi divisional police station.
“Upon arrival of the Command’s tactical operatives at the camps, the suspects fled. The criminal camps were subsequently dismantled,” the statement reads.
“A total of twenty-eight (28) human skulls and bones, suspected to be kidnap victims, were recovered.

Chinaka added that the commissioner urged residents to collaborate with the police by reporting security concerns to the nearest police station.
