COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED BY CONCERNED YOUTHS AND STUDENTS OF EDE, E4 FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY AT A PEACEFUL PROTEST
(EDE NORTH, EDE SOUTH, EGBEDORE AND EJIGBO LOCAL GOVERNMENTS)
We, the Concerned Youths and Students of Ede, E4 Federal Constituency, drawn from Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Local Governments, having assembled peacefully and responsibly, hereby present this communiqué to the distinguished leaders of the All Progressives Congress at the Osun West Senatorial District, State, and National levels.
1. PURPOSE OF OUR GATHERING
Our presence here today reflects a shared conviction that the strength of any political party lies in its ability to uphold fairness, reward loyalty, and make decisions that unite rather than divide. We have come together, not in protest against authority, but in appeal to conscience and leadership responsibility.
2. A CLEAR AND JUST REQUEST
We respectfully urge our Party leaders to zone the Osun West Senatorial ticket to Ede, E4 Federal Constituency. This position is not driven by sentiment, but by a careful consideration of equity, electoral contribution, and the long-term interest of the Party.
3. THE QUESTION OF FAIRNESS
Within the Osun West Senatorial District, representation must reflect balance. Ayedire, Iwo, Ola-Oluwa Federal Constituency has held the Senatorial position for two consecutive terms. In a system that values inclusiveness, it is reasonable and just that another Federal Constituency, particularly E4, is allowed to serve.
Fairness is not an abstract ideal, it is a practical necessity. Where fairness is upheld, trust grows. Where it is ignored, discontent follows.
4. EVIDENCE OF ELECTORAL VALUE
To support informed and objective consideration, we respectfully present the outcomes of recent elections across the three Federal Constituencies in Osun West:
2023 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION (APC / PDP):
Ayedire, Iwo, Ola-Oluwa: 33,956 / 31,810
Ayedaade, Isokan, Irewole: 41,004 / 40,725
E4 (Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, Ejigbo): 38,416 / 57,778
2022 GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION (APC / PDP):
Ayedire, Iwo, Ola-Oluwa: 34,412 / 31,521
Ayedaade, Isokan, Irewole: 43,558 / 38,373
E4: 38,890 / 74,664
These figures are presented in good faith to aid fair reflection. They show that E4 consistently delivers substantial votes for the APC, even within a politically competitive environment.
5. STRUCTURAL CAPACITY AND GRASSROOTS REACH
For further clarity, we also present the distribution of polling units alongside the total number of registered voters across the Federal Constituencies:
Ayedire, Iwo, Ola-Oluwa: 295 polling units, 164,291 registered voters
Ayedaade, Isokan, Irewole: 383 polling units, 195,207 registered voters
E4 (Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore, Ejigbo): 450 polling units, 253,532 registered voters.
This data reflects not only the widest grassroots spread in E4, but also the largest concentration of registered voters within Osun West Senatorial District. It underscores the significant electoral weight and mobilisation capacity of E4 in any contest.
6. A STRATEGIC OPPORTUNITY FOR THE PARTY
As the Party prepares for future contests, including the governorship election and the 2027 general elections, it is important to adopt decisions that strengthen internal cohesion and expand voter confidence.
Zoning the Senatorial ticket to E4 presents an opportunity to reinforce inclusiveness, energise party supporters, and consolidate electoral strength across the District.
7. RESPONSIBILITY WITHIN E4
While we appeal to Party leaders, we also recognise our responsibility within E4. This moment calls for unity among leaders, stakeholders, and members of the Party in the Constituency.
We must set aside differences, coordinate our efforts, and present a united front that reflects readiness, discipline, and purpose.
8. OUR POSITION
Based on fairness, electoral performance, and structural advantage, we firmly hold that Ede, E4 Federal Constituency is well-positioned to contribute significantly as the next source of Senatorial representation in Osun West.
9. OUR APPEAL TO LEADERS
We respectfully call on the leadership of the Party at all levels to:
Consider the principles of equity and balanced representation;
Reflect on the electoral contributions across the constituencies;
Make a decision that promotes unity and strengthens the Party’s future.
10. OUR COMMITMENT
We remain loyal to the All Progressives Congress and committed to its growth and success. Our approach remains peaceful, constructive, and guided by respect for leadership and democratic values.
