Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has raised the alarm over an alleged plot to disrupt the ongoing governorship election in the state, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of bringing a police officer from Port Harcourt to “disorganise the vote.”
Adeleke made the allegation shortly after casting his ballot in the ongoing Osun State gubernatorial Election at Unit 009, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area.
Speaking after voting, the governor called on the Inspector General of Police and other security agencies to pay close attention to the activities of the alleged officer and ensure that the electoral process is not disrupted.
Adeleke said, “It’s going well and I hope it continues like that but I got some information from my people in Osun State. There is one Police officer called London from Port Harcourt, they brought him to come and disorganise the vote, so I am calling on the Inspector General of Police and all the security agents to watch out and be on the lookout.”
The governor further alleged that the officer was brought into Osun by the APC as part of an alleged plan to interfere with the election, particularly in his hometown of Ede.
He said, “The APC in Osun brought him to come and destroy my town, the Police Commissioner election, the DIG election, should take note and all my people in Ede should watch out and I have it on authority of information that they dont want to go through the normal process of from units to wards and to local government, they just want to take it all the way to the collation centre and that is not acceptable, they must follow the rules and that’s why I am alerting my people to watch out and I know by the special grace of God that I am winning this election.”
Adeleke’s allegation comes amid heightened political tension and concerns over the conduct of the election, with political parties and stakeholders raising accusations of intimidation, violence and alleged attempts to manipulate the process.
The governor urged security agencies, including the police hierarchy, to ensure that electoral officials and voters are allowed to operate without interference.
He specifically called on the Police Commissioner and Deputy Inspector-General overseeing the election to take note of the alleged activities and prevent any attempt to circumvent the established electoral process.
Adeleke also appealed to residents of Ede to remain vigilant, alleging that there was an attempt to bypass the established collation procedure by moving results directly to the collation centre instead of following the process from polling units through wards and local government areas.
Despite the allegations, the governor expressed confidence in his electoral prospects, saying he believed he would emerge victorious.
The election is being held across Osun State, with voters casting ballots to elect the next governor amid intense competition among the major political parties.
Adeleke’s comments are likely to heighten scrutiny of the security arrangements and collation process as voting progresses across the state.
