Five D¡e In Lagos As Car Collides Head-On With Truck On Badagry Expressway

Five people have died in a fatal road crash involving a Toyota Camry and an Iveco truck on the Badagry Expressway in Lagos State.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Sawmill, near Mowo Bus Stop, when the Camry collided head-on with the oncoming truck.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said it received a distress call about the crash at 5:16am and immediately deployed its Dolphin Team from the Igando base to the scene.

According to LASEMA, its operatives found a Toyota Camry with registration number FKJ 630KS and an Iveco truck with registration number T28081 LA involved in the collision.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said preliminary investigations indicated that speeding and reckless driving by the Camry driver caused the crash.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the accident was caused by over-speeding and reckless driving on the part of the Toyota Camry driver. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, veered into the opposite lane and had a head-on collision with the oncoming Iveco truck,” the statement said.

The agency said the impact of the collision killed the five adult male occupants of the Camry.

“Regrettably, the impact of the collision resulted in the death of five adult males who were occupants of the Toyota Camry. The remains of the victims were carefully recovered, bagged with dignity, and handed over to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps for further necessary action,” LASEMA said.

Responders at the scene included the LASEMA Dolphin Team, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Federal Road Safety Corps and police operatives from the Morogbo Division.
