BREAKING: NFF President Gusau, Board Members Resign

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, and several members of the federationโ€™s executive committee have reportedly resigned amid mounting pressure over the state of Nigerian football.

Sports radio station Brila FM reported that Gusau and other members of the NFF board had stepped down following growing criticism of the federation over recent failures by the countryโ€™s national teams.

TVC News also reported the development, saying it had independently confirmed Gusauโ€™s resignation through a senior member of the Supporters Club close to him.

According to the report, at least eight members of the 13-member NFF executive committee are said to have resigned.

The development follows a difficult period for Nigerian football, including the Super Eaglesโ€™ failure to qualify for consecutive FIFA World Cups and the Super Falconsโ€™ failure to reach the 2027 FIFA Womenโ€™s World Cup.

The Falcons lost to Cameroon in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Womenโ€™s Africa Cup of Nations before suffering another defeat to South Africa in the playoff route, ending Nigeriaโ€™s record of appearing at every edition of the Womenโ€™s World Cup since 1991.

The setbacks had intensified calls for major changes at the NFF, with Gusau and members of the executive committee coming under pressure from football stakeholders.

The federation has also faced scrutiny over the administration of Nigerian football and the management of funds released for national teams.

Earlier reports revealed that security agencies were examining allegations surrounding NFF officials, although the reported investigations had not been publicly confirmed by the agencies at the time.

The latest crisis comes shortly after a fact-finding committee set up by the NFF to examine Nigeriaโ€™s recent international football setbacks highlighted concerns ranging from camp management and technical decisions to broader administrative problems within the federation.

The reported mass resignations could also have implications for the NFF board election scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
