Treasure Women and Girls Empowerment Foundation (TWAGEF) has equipped 63 women from Epe and Ibeju-Lekki communities in Lagos State with practical skills in climate-smart agriculture, digital literacy and financial empowerment to promote food security and sustainable livelihoods.
The three-day Climate Smart Agriculture and Sustainable Livelihood Training, held from 19 to 21 October 2026, combined practical agricultural instruction with digital and financial education to help participants explore affordable food production and income-generating opportunities.
STARTER PACKS TURN KNOWLEDGE INTO ACTION
To encourage participants to apply their newly acquired skills, TWAGEF distributed agricultural starter packs containing branded planting sacks and seeds of ugu, watermelon, okra, tomatoes, habanero pepper, shoko, green vegetables, carrots and ewedu. Participants also received certificates of participation in recognition of their involvement in the training.
The starter packs are intended to help women begin planting immediately, including in homes and other small spaces where conventional farmland may be unavailable.
PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND DIGITAL INCLUSION
Training sessions covered climate-smart agriculture, sack farming, compost production from household organic waste, nursery establishment, seedling management, agricultural value chains and environmentally responsible pest and disease management.
Participants also explored digital literacy, artificial intelligence, online safety, financial literacy and the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) model.

The programme also highlighted how collective savings and financial discipline can help women build resources for livelihood activities.
BUILDING WOMEN’S ECONOMIC RESILIENCE
By combining practical training with starter resources, digital knowledge and financial education, TWAGEF aims to help women translate learning into household food production and potential business opportunities.
Continued technical support, access to finance and reliable markets will be important in helping participants grow their agricultural activities. TWAGEF encourages the women to practise their new skills and share useful knowledge with others in their communities.
The initiative reinforces a simple message: women can grow food in small spaces, turn organic household waste into useful compost, use digital tools to improve their knowledge and strengthen their financial capacity through collective action.
The training was supported by Global Affairs Canada through the RWVL Nigeria Project in Lagos State, with the assistance of ActionAid Nigeria and Women’s Rights and Health Project (WRAHP).
