A tenant has smashed his landlord’s head during a violent altercation in Benin City, Edo State, following a disagreement over an increase in rent from ₦300,000 to ₦1 million.
The incident was revealed in a video shared online by Edo TV on Friday 30th October, 2026
The tenant explained that the incident occurred on the morning of the confrontation when his landlord questioned him about tiling work he had carried out in the apartment with his own money for the benefit of his business.
He added that the landlord demanded additional payment for the renovation and subsequently increased his rent from ₦300,000 to ₦1 million.
Narrating how the disagreement escalated into violence, the tenant claimed that the landlord slapped him first, prompting him to retaliate by smashing his landlord’s head.
“He slapped me first and out of my defence, I smashed his head. It wasn’t intentional,” the tenant said. The altercation reportedly left the landlord with serious head injuries.
