Shock and grief have gripped the community of Ondo Town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area in Ondo State, following the sudden death of Akinbolusere Kayode, a prominent local businessman and the owner of the well-known Esther Estate.
Mr Akinbolusere reportedly committed suicide on Thursday, 29 October 2026.
Prior to his tragic passing, Mr Akinbolusere recorded a final selfie-style video from inside a vehicle, which went viral on social media.
In the emotional footage, he detailed the profound frustrations he was facing in his business operations and absolved his wife from his travails.
He specifically noted the breakdown of three critical pieces of operational machinery, which heavily impacted his livelihood. He emphasised that he built his business with his wife from humble beginnings through completely honest means.
In the video, Mr Akinbolusere explicitly willed his properties and assets to his wife and three children. He repeatedly stressed that he was recording the message and making his final decisions entirely of his own free will, free from any outside pressure, threat, or duress.

Akinbolusere admitted to causing his own misfortunes, stating: “I caused my own problems and misfortunes through over-excitement. Everything was going smoothly until my euphoria went beyond normal limits. My wife is a good woman and a pillar of support; she is the kind of woman every man prays to have.
“No one forced me to record this video. I am completely fine and currently driving, as you can see from the surroundings. However, I am making this video for the record so that nobody blames my wife or anyone else, because I caused everything that is happening to me”, he said in a video watched by Starnews.
The news of his suicide has left residents, business associates, and family members in deep mourning. The police are expected to review the circumstances surrounding the incident
