GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have sparked widespread public reactions after viral videos showed them distributing bags of rice and bread to residents in Osun State ahead of the upcoming Saturday governorship election.
The viral footage captured prominent party figures coordinating the distribution of branded bags of rice to locals.
In the videos, distributors are heard explicitly telling the recipients that the candidate, popularly called “AMBO,” sent the food items.
They urged residents to line up, take the rice, and cast their votes for the APC in Saturday’s election.
This development follows a similar grassroots campaign strategy from days earlier, where APC team members distributed branded loaves of bread labeled “Bola Oyebamiji As Governor” to residents on the streets of Osogbo.
The food distribution has drawn heavy online backlash from citizens and civil groups.
Critics argue that exchanging short-term palliatives like rice and bread for a four-year political mandate represents “weaponised poverty” and a refusal to tackle deep economic challenges with viable policies.
Many local commentators on social media have expressed a cynical approach to the situation, stating they will gladly collect the distributed food items but still vote for their preferred choices at the polls on Saturday.
The election atmosphere remains highly charged, with separate unverified footage circulating online showing opposing political factions allegedly distributing cash sums of ₦10,000 to residents in exchange for votes and loyalty oaths.
