Democracy Day: Comforter Seeks Better Nigeria Amid Security, Economic Challenges; Prays for Oriire Abductees

The Member representing Ibadan North Constituency I in the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Olufunke Comforter Adeniyi-Olajide, has joined millions of Nigerians in commemorating Democracy Day, describing the occasion as an opportunity to reflect on the nation’s democratic journey, renew hope, and strengthen collective efforts toward a better Nigeria.

In her Democracy Day message made available to journalists by her media team , Hon. Comforter commended the sacrifices of the nation’s democratic heroes and heroines whose struggles laid the foundation for the democratic freedoms Nigerians enjoy today. She noted that despite the challenges confronting the country, democracy remains the most viable path to national development, accountability, and inclusive governance.

The lawmaker urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the country, emphasizing that the journey toward a prosperous and equitable nation requires collective commitment, patience, and active participation from all citizens.

“Democracy Day reminds us of the resilience and determination of the Nigerian people. While we acknowledge the economic and social challenges facing our nation, we must remain hopeful and continue to work together for the Nigeria of our dreams,” she stated.

Hon. Comforter further called on leaders at all levels to prioritize good governance, transparency, security, and the welfare of the people, stressing that the dividends of democracy must be felt by every citizen regardless of social or economic status.

The lawmaker also expressed deep concern over the security challenges confronting parts of the country, particularly the recent abduction of students and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. She called for intensified efforts by security agencies and relevant authorities to secure the safe and immediate release of all those still in captivity.

According to her, “The pain and anxiety being experienced by the affected families, communities, and loved ones are unimaginable. We pray for the safety of the abducted students and teachers and urge all relevant authorities to leave no stone unturned in ensuring their rescue and reunion with their families.”

She also offered prayers for improved security across the nation, asking God to grant wisdom to leaders, strength to security personnel, and peace to communities affected by insecurity and violence.

Hon. Comforter encouraged young people to remain actively engaged in the democratic process, describing them as critical stakeholders in shaping the future of the nation.

As Nigerians commemorate Democracy Day, Hon. Comforter prayed for peace, unity, and sustained progress across the country, expressing confidence that Nigeria will overcome its challenges and emerge stronger, safer, and more prosperous.

“Together, with hope, unity, determination, and a shared commitment to justice and good governance, we can build a better Nigeria for ourselves and future generations,” she concluded.
