David Oyedepo Jnr, pastor and son of Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church (Winners’ Chapel), has revealed that he and his wife, Kemi, have gone 17 years of marriage without a single argument.
During a recent church service, posted on YouTube, he shared that the key to their 17 years of marital harmony stems from a purposeful, Bible-based choice they made at the start of their marriage.
David dismissed the common belief that marital disagreements are unavoidable, describing it as “deception from the devil.”
He explained that his belief was shaped years ago after hearing a sermon referencing a biblical passage that suggested marriage naturally brings “troubles in the flesh.”
“Years ago, I heard a man preaching from 1 Corinthians. And he began to talk about marriage. I was not married then. I was in a courtship with my wife. And he was talking about marriage,” he said.
“I am reading from the Word of God, and I have learnt over time that God’s word is the highest authority. Whatever it is God’s word says is a settled matter.
“So he began to teach, and the subject of teaching was ‘he that marries will have troubles in the flesh’. And I was not married. Nobody sees the trouble to go and look for. And he read it from the Bible. And he began to teach part one, part two, part three. And the message was trouble.”
Disturbed by the message during their courtship, Oyedepo Jnr said he consulted his own Bible for guidance and study.
He concluded that the preacher’s interpretation was misleading, as it left out important context.
“I said no, I am not married yet, and I do not want to register for any kind of trouble. So after he finished teaching, I took my bible and opened it. If you are not enlightened, you will end up damaged. Deception is simply corrupting the truth,” he said.

“This is where there is a need for us to come to the point of understanding. If not, there will be deception.
“You know, there are people who would tell you ‘you must fight in marriage’. It is a lie from hell. I began saying it when I saw that scripture. I started telling my wife when we were in courtship that we would never have an argument.
“Our wedding anniversary was month of July; in our 17 years of marriage, we have not had one argument. Why? But I spare you. We have never had a day when I am raising my voice and my wife is raising her voice. Not one day.”
The couple got married in 2008.
