The G-100, a group of opposition political parties pushing for the opposition to field one presidential candidate in the 2027 presidential contest, has said the coalition would be expanded to accommodate more political parties.
The opposition coalition currently consists of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The G-100, in a statement by Salihu Lukman, said this is because some other “forward-thinking” opposition political parties have indicated interest in joining the coalition, which is geared towards defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 contest.
The statement added that the Central Leadership Committee of the coalition, which was established at the August 31 Summit of Opposition Political Parties, at its recent meeting reviewed the communiqué from the summit and commenced efforts to translate its resolution into an action plan.
According to the statement, “the Central Leadership agreed to operational principles that would guarantee equal opportunity and mutual respect among coalescing parties, which include resolving that the responsibility of chairing meetings shall rotate among the parties in alphabetical order, because a coalition founded upon equality must demonstrate equality in its own conduct.
“The meeting reviewed the communiqué of the August Summit and commenced the work of translating its resolutions into practical action. Particular attention was given to operationalising the Publicity Committee, the Legal Committee and the five Working Groups established by the Summit.
“All parties agreed to submit names of their nominees to the Secretariat by the close of work on Friday, September 18, 2026, and all the Committees and Working Groups should commence work in the week of September 21 – 27, 2026.
“The Central Leadership Committee also resolved to expand the coalition to accommodate other forward-thinking opposition parties that have expressed an interest in joining this national endeavour.
“The Committee will reconvene on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, and has committed to meeting regularly in order to achieve the objective of uniting opposition parties in the country and presenting a united front in the 2027 elections.”
