The body of a woman, Blessing Ayebe, has been found in a church toilet in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
Ayebe reportedly attended a service at the Presbyterian Church, Ikot Ansa Parish, on June 28 but did not return home.
According to family sources, her lifeless body was discovered in the church toilet around 9 p.m. on June 29.
Her daughter, Peace Minka Ayebe, reported the incident at the Federal Housing Police Station after being informed by her brother, Saviour Ayebe.
The body was later deposited at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, confirmed the incident, saying preliminary examination of the body showed no visible signs of violence.
He said no suspect had been identified or arrested as of Sunday, as investigators had yet to establish any evidence of foul play.
“The investigation is ongoing, and further developments will be communicated as they unfold,” Akata said.
In another development, GISTSMATE MEDIA reported that the immediate past Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Baba Tela, has been thrown into mourning following the death of two of his children, Mustapha and Ummi, in a fatal road accident.
The siblings reportedly died on Saturday after the vehicle conveying them was involved in a crash along the Bauchi–Azare highway while they were returning to Bauchi from Azare, the headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area.
They were said to have died at the scene of the accident due to the severity of the impact. Their bodies were later taken to a hospital in Bauchi, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths.
Reacting to the tragedy, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, expressed profound grief and extended his condolences to Senator Baba Tela and his family.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed described the incident as heartbreaking and a painful loss not only to the Tela family but also to the people of Bauchi State. READ MORE
