The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, has opened up on why he failed to attend Saturday’s national summit of all opposition parties held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
In a statement on his official Facebook page, Sowore declared that the nation needs genuine alternatives to the current government and not “recycled failures”.
GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that opposition leaders from several political parties converged in Ibadan on Saturday, where agreements were made ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The event was attended by former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, former governors of Anambra, Kano and Rivers – Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso and Rotimi Amaechi respectively.
Former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, former Senate President, David Mark and other top opposition leaders were present.
However, Sowore was conspicuously absent from the summit.
Reacting, Sowore described the politicians at the event as those who “held Nigeria to ransom for years, presiding over stagnation, corruption, and systemic decay”.
He asserted that his party, the AAC “will not be part of any charade designed to recycle failed political actors under the guise of “opposition”.
“Instead, we are committed to presenting a formidable, people-driven alternative, one rooted in integrity, accountability, and genuine transformation.
“We will mobilize Nigerians across the country to rally behind a credible vision that rejects the decadence and deception represented by both the @OfficialAPCNg and their opportunistic counterparts in ADC, PDP, Labour Party and elsewhere
“Nigeria does not need a rearrangement of the same broken pieces, it needs a complete break from the past,” he added.
