We’ll Support Tinubu For Addressing Igbo Needs Since 1969 – Ohanaeze Ndigbo

The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Friday said the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has, for the first time in 55 years since the end of the Nigeria-Biafra War, demonstrated a strong commitment to addressing the needs of the Southeast.

The group declared that Igbos will support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

In a statement issued in Abakaliki, the Deputy National President of an Ohanaeze faction, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said the Federal Government has allocated ₦1.43 trillion for the construction and rehabilitation of long-neglected federal roads in the Southeast, describing it as unprecedented.

He noted that President Tinubu had also established the Southeast Development Commission to drive economic growth in the region, and approved the modernization of the Eastern Economic Corridor through a $3 billion project to upgrade the Port Harcourt–Aba–Ebonyi–Enugu–Makurdi–Lafia–Bauchi–Maiduguri railway from a narrow gauge to a standard gauge.

According to Isiguzoro, the creation of the Southeast Investment Company was another strategic initiative aimed at attracting and managing investments in the zone.

The statement added that the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, had been given the responsibility of conveying the collective decisions of Igbo stakeholders and Southeast governors on Tinubu’s projects and policies.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo affirms that President Tinubu is diligently addressing the critical challenges confronting the Southeast and the broader Igbo nation,” the statement read.

“There is a collective consensus to support his administration until 2031, with an emphatic endorsement for his re-election in 2027. This support comes with important demands to address the pressing needs of our region.”

The group condemned what it described as “orchestrated media attacks” against Senator Umahi by opposition elements in the Southeast, warning that such tactics would no longer be tolerated.

“For the first time in over five decades, the Federal Government is making substantial investments in our region. It is in the interest of Ndigbo to align with President Tinubu’s administration to harness these projects and transform the Southeast into the new economic hub of West Africa,” Isiguzoro stated.

He said a new partnership was emerging between the Southeast and the Tinubu administration, which should be nurtured for mutual benefits.

“In light of these developments, we urge opposition parties and various Igbo groups to cease media hostilities against Senator Umahi. The emergence of fictitious groups allegedly sponsored to harass and intimidate him is misguided and counterproductive,” the statement continued.

Isiguzoro concluded by stressing that the Southeast would not allow any attempt to derail the progress being made, pledging continued support for Umahi and the Tinubu administration “as we collectively strive for a brighter future for Ndigbo.”
