Visa Denial Ends Nigeria’s Youth Table Tennis Hopes For World Event

The Nigerian Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) has confirmed that its youth team will not participate in the 2025 ITTF World Youth Championships in Romania, scheduled for November 23–30, after their visa applications were rejected.

The squad, led by West African champion Kuti Matthew, earned qualification by winning both the boys’ U15 and U19 team events at the 2025 ITTF Africa Youth Championships in Lagos.

Despite their success on the continental stage, Nigeria has now been replaced by Egypt and Tunisia in these categories due to the visa refusal.

NTTF officials described the decision as a “painful blow” to the team and called for stronger diplomatic support to ensure Nigerian athletes can compete internationally without administrative hurdles.

The federation emphasized that visa denials not only derail the careers of promising young players but also undermine Nigeria’s presence and competitiveness in global sporting events.

The youth team’s absence comes as a major disappointment for fans and stakeholders who had hoped to see Nigeria continue its strong performance in international table tennis competitions.

The NTTF vowed to engage authorities to prevent similar setbacks in the future, highlighting the importance of supporting young talent in reaching the world stage.
