Angry residents in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, have stormed a warehouse believed to be linked to a food Ponzi scheme operating in the state, carting away goods.
GISTSMATE MEDIA had earlier reported that the company reportedly promised customers cheap rice, cooking oil, and other food items before suddenly shutting down.
The food company, located in the Odi-Olowo area of Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, reportedly attracted customers with prices far below those in the market.
It was gathered that many residents had reportedly paid money upfront to receive food packages and other benefits offered by the company.
However, the arrangement took a sudden turn on Monday when customers arrived at the company’s premises and found the warehouse closed.
The operators were reportedly unreachable, leaving customers demanding refunds and answers over the money they had paid.

A distressed resident, Mistura, told PUNCH that she deposited N300,000 last Wednesday to purchase 11 bags of rice at N27,000 per bag.
Mistura said the items were usually due for collection one week after payment, adding that the 11 bags of rice would have cost her N605,000 at the prevailing market price of N55,000 per bag.
Another investor, Olamide, said she paid N1.2m for various food items she intended to use for the forthcoming wedding ceremony of her stepdaughter.
“I got here this morning and met a crowd waiting to be attended to, but the operators were nowhere to be found. I was warned, but I never thought they would run away this early. The items I paid for were to be used for my stepdaughter’s wedding ceremony,” she said.
In the video circulating online, several residents were seen rushing to the warehouse, with many carrying kegs of groundnut oil and bags of rice.
Police officers have since stormed the warehouse and fired tear gas to disperse the residents. However, as of the time of filing this report, the looting was said to be continuing.
