Nollywood actor Yomi Fash-Lanso has sparked outrage on social media after he was seen distributing bread and other food items bearing the All Progressives Congress (APC) logo to residents in Lagos State.
A video circulating on social media showed the veteran actor handing out food packages to residents from a roadside location, with several people gathered around to collect the items.
The bread packages and clothing worn by some of the individuals involved in the exercise prominently displayed the APC logo.
Fash-Lanso was seen wearing a white shirt and green cap with APC and local government branding, while individuals in iCARE Foundation T-shirts assisted with the distribution.
Residents were seen collecting white plastic bags containing bread and other food items during the exercise.
The distribution has generated reactions online, with some Nigerians criticising the use of political branding during a food-sharing exercise amid worsening economic hardship in the country.
The development comes as millions of Nigerians continue to grapple with rising food prices, declining purchasing power and difficulties in meeting basic household needs.
Some social media users questioned whether the distribution was intended as humanitarian assistance or political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
One user, Monsuru-Temilade Enitan, described the development as reflecting the “personal interests” of some Nigerian entertainers.
“I didn’t know that fools could bring themselves down to this level because of personal interest and selfish reasons,” the social media user wrote.
He added, “A lot of these actors are a real disgrace to Nigeria, especially Yoruba actors.”
Another user, identified as St Samson, criticised the distribution, writing, “After una make dem suffer una give dem bread as what?”
Reacting to the video, Richard Iheanacho said the development showed the extent of economic hardship facing Nigerians.
“This is a proof that ordinary Nigerians can no longer afford to buy food for themselves,” he wrote.
He added that Nigerians would not reward those responsible for their economic difficulties in the 2027 elections.
Another social media user, Tunde Alobe, linked the distribution to President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, arguing that the reforms had worsened hardship for ordinary Nigerians.
“This is another proof Tinubu’s reforms have made more Nigerians poorer that they can’t even afford basic food items and they have to rely on handouts,” he said.
A user identified as A.MB also criticised the actor’s association with the ruling party, saying the development showed where some entertainers stood politically.
The APC has continued to face criticism from opposition figures and sections of the public over the rising cost of living and economic hardship, although the Federal Government has repeatedly defended its economic reforms as necessary measures to stabilise the economy and achieve long-term growth.
While the video clearly shows APC-branded items being distributed, it does not independently establish who funded the exercise or whether the initiative was officially organised by the party.
The incident has, however, renewed debate over the use of food and other forms of material assistance as tools of political engagement in Nigeria, particularly at a time when many households are struggling to afford basic necessities.
