Al Green, Democratic lawmaker from Texas in the US house of representatives, says he would be filing impeachment articles against Donald Trump over the presidentâs plan to âtake over Gazaâ.
Speaking during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, Trump said the US will take over the Gaza Strip to âdismantle and develop itâ.
âGaza is a hellhole,â Trump said.
Gaza has been reduced to rubble following the recent escalation of hostilities between Hamas, the Palestinian militant group, and Israel.
According to The Guardian, Green said Trumpâs plan was a âdastardly deedâ, adding that âethnic cleansing in Gaza is not a joke, especially when it emanates from the President of the United Statesâ.
âAnd the prime minister of Israel should be ashamed, knowing the history of his people, to stand there and allow such things to be said,â he added.
âDr King was right. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, and injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America.
âI rise to announce that the movement to impeach the president has begun. I rise to announce that I will bring articles of impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed, and dastardly deeds done.â
Green said the âimpeachment movement is going to be a grass-up movement, not a top-downâ, and that âwhen the people demand it, it will be doneâ.
Green launched a raft of unsuccessful impeachment attempts against Trump during the presidentâs first term in office.
His latest effort is unlikely to gain much traction as impeachment is not seen as an immediate agenda for his party.
