BREAKING: US Military Sinks Six Iranian Boats As Tehran Fires On US Navy, Commercial Ships

The fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran that has held for nearly a month is being tested after both sides fired shots in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US military “blew up” six small Iranian boats in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday after Iran launched “multiple cruise missiles, drones and small boats” at US Navy ships and at commercial ships being “protected” by the US military, US Central Command chief Adm. Bradley Cooper told reporters.

The Iranian boats were attacked by US Apache and SH-60 Seahawk helicopters, Cooper said.

There are no “escorts” of commercial ships by the US Navy in the strait, Cooper said.

“If you’re escorting a ship, you’re playing kind of one-on-one. I think we have a much better defensive arrangement in this process, where we have multiple layers that include ships, helicopters, aircraft, airborne early warning, electronic warfare,” he said. “We have a much broader defensive package than we would have ever if you’re just escorting.”

Cooper said that the US had cleared a “one way” path through the Strait meant to allow commercial vessels that have been “held hostage” in the Persian Gulf for weeks to exit the waterway — though he did not specify how many ships have used the newly cleared lane so far.

Earlier, US-flagged vessels successfully passed through the strait, the military said, but Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps rejected the statement as “baseless,” according to state media.

Oil prices rose and stocks fell on renewed concerns about the safety of transiting the waterway, after President Donald Trump said US forces would help guide stranded vessels.

US gas prices could reach $5 a gallon if the strait remains closed, an oil market expert says.

Meanwhile in Lebanon, the Israeli military has issued a fresh evacuation order for 10 villages in southern Lebanon.

The Iran-backed Hezbollah group has continued to trade strikes with Israel during a fragile ceasefire.
