The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has confirmed the death of two intending pilgrims in a road accident along the Rimin Gado–Kano route.
In a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Sulaiman A. Dederi, the board said the victims, Alkasim Ibrahim Walawa, 48, and his mother, Hadiza Garba, 73, died in the crash while travelling between Rimin Gado and Kano.
According to the statement, both victims were indigenes of Walawa Village in Kabo Local Government Area. Walawa is survived by two wives and seven children, while his mother is survived by five children.
The board described the incident as tragic, noting that the victims were preparing for a religious pilgrimage to the Holy Land at the time of the accident.
In a joint condolence message, the board and its management extended sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for divine forgiveness for the deceased, asking that they be granted eternal rest. It also urged the family to remain steadfast during the mourning period.
GISTSMATE MEDIA earlier reported that the Abia State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with a fatal road accident that claimed the life of Ifeanyi Mmesoma Miracle, a 200-level student of Abia State University.
The incident occurred on Sunday along the Okigwe/Afikpo Expressway in Uturu and drew public attention following a viral video showing the victim’s lifeless body at the scene.
Confirming the development on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chioma Chinaka, said the accident involved two motorcycles that collided head-on, throwing their passengers onto the road.
She disclosed that the victim was subsequently run over by an oncoming Mack truck. READ MORE
