Troops Arrest 15-Year-Old Suspected Terrorist In Borno

Troops of the 149 Battalion under Operation HADIN KAI, in conjunction with the Civilian Joint Task Force, have arrested a suspected teenage terrorist, Umar Zacharria in Gubio town, Borno State.

According to security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, the suspect, identified as Umar Zacharria, aged 15, was arrested at about 1:20 p.m. on May 14 during a joint operation carried out by troops and CJTF operatives.

The report noted that sources said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect hails from Jere Local Government Area and allegedly confessed to being among the terrorists terrorising motorists in the Kareto general area.

“According to the sources, the suspect is currently in the custody of the military for further investigation,” the report said.

In a related development, troops of the 196 Amphibious Battalion under Operation HADIN KAI arrested a 50-year-old woman, Mrs. Kellu Alhaji Abba, for allegedly acting as a logistics collaborator and supplying critical provisions to her son, a suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorist operating in Borno State.

According to Makama, security sources disclosed that Mrs. Abba was apprehended at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, during a routine security check at the C Company 7 Platoon checkpoint in the Kukawa Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, identified as a Kanuri woman residing in the Lawanti area of the borderline town of Baga, was reportedly caught red-handed while attempting to smuggle supplies into the bush.

According to the report, the provisions were bound for her son, Modu Mustapha, identified as a notorious terrorist operative known to be anchoring insurgent activities within the Dumba general area.

Items recovered from the 50-year-old mother at the checkpoint included: “Four ready-to-use, high-nutrient supplementary food packs. Two female hijabs (frequently used by insurgents for disguise or suicide operations). One wristwatch.”

Military authorities confirmed that Mrs. Abba was immediately taken into custody by the 196 Amphibious Battalion, where she is currently undergoing rigorous interrogation to map out more of her son’s local support network.
