Thelma Candelaria, 47, has died after being struck by a train while filming her morning jog along railroad tracks in Eloy, Arizona, United States.
According to reports, she was recording one train on Snapchat when another approached from the opposite direction. Her daughter, Alaisha, 29, told AZ Family that her mother did not see the approaching train.
“She had her noise-canceling headphones on. She was in her own world,” Alaisha said.
Investigators told Fox 10 that the train engineer spotted Candelaria between the tracks and activated the emergency brakes. Both trains also sounded their horns.
Police found Candelaria dead at the scene near Sunshine Boulevard and Frontier Street. A broken orange cellphone was also recovered, while investigations continued.
Her daughter reportedly pieced together the incident using surveillance footage and her mother’s social media posts.
