Tinubu To Visit Saint Lucia, Attend BRICS Summit In Brazil

President Bola Tinubu will embark on a two-nation tour on Saturday, June 28, 2025, with scheduled visits to Saint Lucia and Brazil

This was contained in a Friday statement by presidential aide, Bayo Onanuga.

In Saint Lucia, Tinubu is expected to meet with the Governor-General, Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles, and Prime Minister Philip Pierre.

He will also address a joint session of the island nation’s Senate and House of Assembly at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom, Sandals Grande, Gros Islet.

The visit will include a high-level luncheon with leaders of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, focusing on economic partnerships and cultural solidarity.

Tinubu will also visit the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries to promote educational exchange between Nigeria and the Caribbean nation.

The statement read, β€œPresident Tinubu’s visit underscores Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic relations with Caribbean states, especially within the African Union’s Sixth Region framework, which recognises the African diaspora as an essential partner in the continent’s development.

β€œNigeria and Saint Lucia share ties through membership in international organisations such as the United Nations and the Commonwealth of Nations, and they have a common heritage rooted in African ancestry.

β€œThe visit is expected to open new pathways for infrastructure development, educational cooperation, youth empowerment, and diplomatic exchange.”

Following his engagements in Saint Lucia, Tinubu will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to participate in the 17th BRICS Summit from July 6 to 7.

The President is attending the summit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz InΓ‘cio Lula da Silva.

Nigeria holds β€œpartner country” status in the BRICS group, which is an upgrade from its previous role as a guest nation. South Africa, Egypt and Ethiopia are Africa’s full BRICS members.

This year’s summit will focus on β€œStrengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance,” with emphasis on social, economic, and environmental development.

Tinubu will be accompanied by senior government officials on the trip.
