‘Student Not Flogged 164 Times’ – Ogun ASSUS Clears Air Over Alleged Student’s Death From Teacher’s Fløgging

Academic Staff Union of Secondary School (ASUSS) through his Chairman has given details of how a student of Monday Ariyo died after he was reportedly beaten by a teacher at Obada Grammar School in Imeko Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Recall that an Activist, @justadetoun said Ariyo d!ed after allegedly being flogged “164” times by a teacher for interrupting his statement.

But reacting to Adetoun’s account of the incident, ASSUS Chairman said the deceased died due to injuries he has sustained before coming to school.

He maintained that Ariyo and his class mates were given two stroke of cane each for interrupting Principal’s announcement.

ASSUS Chairman also sympathized with deceased family and called for calm in respect for the family of Ariyo.

The press statement reads:

THE TRUE SITUATION OF OBADA COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL INCIDENCE BY ASUSS OGUN STATE.

Comrades, since yesterday I have been receiving different videos from a blogger named Toun, about the death of one of our students at Obada in Imeko Afon Local Government.

Please permit me to brief us about the unfortunate occurrence, according to the report I got from the school.

The deceased was not the only one beaten but the entire class of SS2, this happened when the Principal was addressing the students on the about the big waste bins she bought with her money, for the school use. The bins are to be placed at strategic places on the school premises.

While making the announcement, one of the SS2 students blurted out ‘is it not with our money that you used to buy it’. The principal persuaded the students to disclose the culprit, but none of them responded.

She then instructed teachers to give all the SSS2 students two strokes of cane each in her presence. This is against the false account of the blogger, that the boy was given 162 strokes.

The staff discovered that the deceased who was among the SSS2 students beaten fell down. He was cared for medically and he regained consciousness.

However, they noticed he had marks on his body, they inquired about how he got the marks he responded that he had motorcycle accident before coming to school. They asked him why he didn’t say he had sustained injury from the bike accident, he said he doesn’t feel like telling anyone. As we all know death won’t come without hanging on something. It’s a pity we lost our son but in the interest of the life involved, I appeal that we allow the matter to be because the family are still seriously mourning.

The Union leadership is on top of this issue and we are planning to visit the parent in earnest. A wise person will desist from writing or sending unwarranted video that will increase the sorrow of the deceased parent.

The emergency journalists should keep off on this issue to respect the grief of the parents and the entire teachers community in Ogun State.

Please disregard all baseless videos being spread on social media pages my dear comrades.

May God comfort and console the parents of the deceased and may we not see this type of occurrence again in our midst. Amen

Thank you all.

Comrade Dr Felix Oluwaseun Agbesanwa

State Chairman, ASUSS
