Strait of Hormuz: Trump Sets Conditions As Iran Asks For Ceasefire, ‘We Will Consider’

United States President Donald J. Trump, on Wednesday, April 1, shared a forceful message regarding Iran, which showed both threats and conditions for dialogue.

Iran requests ceasefire, Trump responds: “We will consider” only after Hormuz is free

According to him, Iran’s new president, whom he described as “much less radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors,” has requested a ceasefire.

The White House shared his remarks via X.

Trump added that the United States would consider Iran’s request only once the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route, is “open, free, and clear.” He warned that until then, military operations against Iran would continue.

In his post, Trump used forceful language, saying the US is “blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages.”

The remarks come amid ongoing tensions between the US and Iran, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a major point of concern for global energy supplies. Any disruption there affects oil shipments worldwide, contributing to rising fuel prices in many countries.

His comments suggest that the United States is holding off on negotiations until it sees Iran fully comply with conditions regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

Recall that on Wednesday, March 31, Trump sent a direct message to countries facing fuel shortages linked to the Strait.

He urged them to either purchase fuel from the US or secure it themselves. In a post shared via X, Trump criticised nations that had not supported the US during tensions with Iran, singling out the United Kingdom for refusing to join efforts he described as aimed at weakening Iran.

Trump wrote that countries struggling to get jet fuel should “buy from the U.S., we have plenty,” and then “build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT.” He added that the United States would no longer step in to assist allies.

He warned, “You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself. The U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore.”
He also claimed that Iran had already suffered major damage in the ongoing conflict, stating the “hard part is done” and telling other countries to “go get your own oil.”
