The Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State, Hon. Dare Alebiosu, has announced a seven-day traditional rites and curfew in the council area.
These rites, which begin from Wednesday, 30th July, to Tuesday, 5th August, 2025, might be connected with the passage of the late Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Dr Sikiru Kayode Adetona.
Oba Adetona, who reigned for 65 years, joined his ancestors at the age of 91 on 13th July and was buried the following day, according to Islamic injunctions.
The LG boss, in a statement, said that there will be an Oro curfew across the local government from 12 midnight to 4:00 a.m. on the stated days.
He, therefore, urged residents, especially non-indigenes, to stay indoors during the period.
The statement reads, “The general public is hereby informed that there will be a daily Oro curfew across Ijebu Ode Local Government for seven consecutive days beginning from Wednesday, 30th July to Tuesday, 5th August, 2025.
“The curfew will be in effect daily from 12:00 midnight to 4:00 a.m. during this period.
“This restriction is in observance of traditional rites. During the curfew hours, all movement is strictly prohibited, and residents are strongly advised to remain indoors for their safety.
“We appeal to all residents, especially non-indigenes, to cooperate fully with the directive, in respect for our customs and to maintain public order.”
