Former Super Eagles captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, has revealed that Brazil football legend, Ronaldinho, asked him about Nigeria missing out on the 2026 World Cup.
Eric Chelle’s men failed to qualify for the tournament after they lost the African play-off final to DR Congo.
Speaking on the Obi One podcast, Okocha praised John Mikel Obi for publicly criticizing the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.
He said: “Kudos to you, John Mikel, you’re speaking up against the Nigerian Federation.
“I live in Nigeria, and the NFF president is my friend, so it’s difficult to speak up.
“I get asked by my colleagues like Ronaldinho why Nigeria hasn’t qualified for the World cup.”
In another development, GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that the Nigeria Football Federation has sacked the technical crew of the Super Falcons following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The NFF Executive Committee directed all members of the technical crew to step down with immediate effect on Monday, following the team’s disappointing campaign at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and subsequent World Cup qualifying playoffs.
“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper_Falcons to step down with immediate effect,” the federation announced.
The decision came after the ten-time African champions suffered their earliest-ever exit from the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, losing 1-0 to Cameroon in the quarter-finals. READ MORE
