Popular Cleric Allegedly Banned After Criticizing President Tinubu In His Preaching

The Zazzau Emirate Council has banned prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Said Khamis Almisiry, from delivering sermons or leading prayers at Masallacin Abu Ubaida Bin Jarrah and Sabon Gari Bye-Pass in Tudun Wada, Kaduna.

In an official letter dated 15th April, 2026, signed by the Council Secretary, Mal. Yusuf Abubakar Hayat, the emirate directed the mosque leadership to stop Sheikh Almisiry and his deputy, Malam Aminu Garba, from all preaching activities with immediate effect.

The directive has sparked outrage among residents and followers of the cleric, many of whom see it as an attempt to silence a vocal voice.

According to Datti Assalafy who is familiar with the matter, the ban was allegedly imposed because of the scholar’s frequent and sharp criticism of the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The development has triggered heated debate online, with some describing the ban as an “embarrassment”.

The public also questioned why a respected Islamic scholar is being punished for speaking against a democratic government.

The public argued that traditional institutions are expected to protect religious voices rather than political interests.
