Peter Obi Addresses European Union Parliament, Seeks Stronger Partnership For Africa

National Democratic Party (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called for stronger collaboration between Africa and Europe, urging global stakeholders to support policies that promote economic growth, good governance and youth development across the continent.

Obi made the call while speaking before members of the European Union (EU) Parliament in a now-viral video, where he reflected on the challenges confronting Nigeria and many African nations, while outlining pathways to sustainable development and democratic consolidation.

Addressing EU Parliament, Obi stressed that Africa’s future depends largely on the quality of leadership, the strength of its institutions, and the ability of governments to create opportunities for their growing youthful population.

He argued that meaningful investments in education, entrepreneurship, innovation, and human capital development remain critical to unlocking the continent’s economic potential and reducing poverty.

The former governor also underscored the need for accountable governance and transparent public institutions, noting that sustainable progress can only be achieved when citizens have confidence in those entrusted with leadership responsibilities.

Obi further advocated stronger partnerships between African countries and international stakeholders, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, technology transfer and capacity building, describing such cooperation as essential for addressing shared global challenges.

His appearance at the European Parliament attracted attention from political observers and members of the Nigerian diaspora, with many viewing the engagement as an opportunity to spotlight issues affecting Nigeria and the broader African continent on an influential international platform.
