‘Osun People Have Spoken’ – Aregbesola Congratulates Gov Adeleke

Former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, saying the people of the state have spoken through the ballot.

Aregbesola said the outcome of the August 15 governorship election should be respected and urged Adeleke to use his renewed mandate to unite the state and deepen development.

In a statement posted on X, the former governor said the responsibility before Adeleke was now greater than the contest that had just ended.

“I congratulate Senator Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as the Governor of Osun following the governorship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026,” Aregbesola said.Local Osun News

“Now that the people of Osun have spoken through the ballot, their decision must be respected.”

Aregbesola urged Adeleke to govern fairly and extend his administration’s attention to residents irrespective of their political affiliations.

“The task before the governor is now greater than the contest that has just ended,” he said.

“I urge him to see the outcome as a renewed mandate to unite the state, deepen development and govern with fairness, humility and a strong sense of responsibility to every citizen.”

Aregbesola, a leading figure in the African Democratic Congress, ADC, also commended members of the party for supporting its governorship candidate, Najeem Salaam, despite what he described as intense political pressure.

“To the men and women of the African Democratic Congress in Osun, I say: thank you. I am particularly proud of your steadfastness, courage and commitment throughout this journey,” he said.Local Osun News

He also praised Salaam for the manner in which he conducted his campaign and accepted the outcome of the election.

According to Aregbesola, the ADC’s defeat should not end the party’s commitment to the development of Osun.

He urged members and supporters to remain united, hold the government accountable and continue to offer constructive alternatives.

“Democracy is strengthened when political actors demonstrate the courage to compete vigorously, the humility and maturity to accept the people’s decision and the wisdom to continue contributing to society afterwards,” he said.

Aregbesola also called on Adeleke to extend a hand of fellowship to other political groups and make his next term one of reconciliation and inclusion.

He told ADC supporters that the values of good governance, accountability, justice, competence and service remained worth pursuing beyond a single election.

“Political journeys are often longer than individual electoral contests,” Aregbesola said.

He wished Adeleke wisdom, good health and success in office, adding: “Power is responsibility.”
