The Accord Party governorship candidate and incumbent Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has won his polling unit in Saturday’s governorship election.
Adeleke secured 421 votes at Ward 02, Polling Unit 009, Abogunde Compound, Ede North Local Government Area against 29 for APC and 1 for ADC.
The result triggered celebrations among the governor’s supporters at the polling unit, with jubilant party members hailing the outcome as sorting and collation of results progressed.
Adeleke had earlier expressed confidence in retaining his seat after casting his ballot at the same polling unit.
His major challenger, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, also voiced optimism about his chances after voting at Ward 09, Polling Unit 011, Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area.
In another development, GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that Osun State Governor Adeleke has condemned the arrest of the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Sunday Bisi, describing it as an abuse of law enforcement and an attack on the democratic process.
Adeleke, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Saturday, alleged that Bisi was arrested at his residence in Ilesa shortly after casting his vote in the ongoing Osun governorship election.
The governor demanded Bisi’s immediate release, saying the circumstances surrounding his arrest were unclear.
According to the statement, “Information reaching me indicates that Hon. Bisi was accosted in his home in Ilesa shortly after he returned after voting and whisked away to yet-to-be-known location. READ MORE
