There was tension at Ward 1, Unit 19, in Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State on Saturday after a social media post alleged that supporters of the All Progressives Congress were forcing voters to cast their ballots for the party.
The claim, shared on X, alleged that voters at the polling unit were being compelled to vote the APC during the ongoing governorship election.
A similar allegation was also made at Ward 11, Unit 008, although details of the reported incident were not immediately available.
The claims could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report, and the identities of those allegedly involved were not immediately established.
The allegations emerged as voting continued across Osun State, with voters turning out at polling units to elect the next governor.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had deployed personnel and materials to polling units across the state, while security agencies were also deployed to maintain order during the exercise.
Any attempt to compel voters to support a particular candidate or political party would contravene the principle of free and voluntary voting, which is central to the conduct of credible elections.
No immediate statement was available from the APC, INEC or the police regarding the allegations at the two polling units.
