Former Flying Eagles midfielder Daniel Daga has been acquitted of sexual assault charges by Norway’s Frostating Court of Appeal, bringing an end to a legal battle that sidelined the Nigerian youngster for several months.
Daga, 19, joined Norwegian club Molde FK in January 2025 and quickly established himself as a key player, making 17 appearances after arriving with high expectations as one of Nigeria’s brightest football prospects.
His progress was halted in April 2025 when he was reported to Norwegian authorities over an alleged sexual offence.
Although he denied the allegations, Molde suspended him from all football activities while the case was being investigated.
In March 2026, the Romsdal District Court found Daga guilty and ordered him to pay NOK 10,000 in legal costs. He subsequently appealed the judgment.
On Thursday, Molde confirmed that the Frostating Court of Appeal had unanimously overturned the earlier ruling and acquitted Daga of all charges.
In a statement published on the club’s official website, Molde said: “Daniel Daga has been unanimously acquitted in the criminal case heard by the Frostating Court of Appeal.
“Based on the verdict, Molde FK considers that Daga will once again be available for play, even though the verdict is not yet final.”
The acquittal clears the way for Daga to return to competitive football, although the club noted that the judgment is not yet legally final.
Daga has been a regular member of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles since 2023, featuring in every match at the 2023 and 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cups.
The defensive midfielder is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s promising young talents and remains a strong contender for a future Super Eagles call-up.
