Two-time Nigerian national champion and Commonwealth Games medallist Favour Ashe has officially transferred his sporting allegiance from Nigeria to Qatar, becoming the latest high-profile athlete to make the switch.
Ashe confirmed the decision in a recent interview with The Guardian, attributing his move to concerns over athlete welfare, inadequate training facilities and what he described as poor treatment during his time competing for Nigeria.
The sprinter, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most promising track talents in recent years, enjoyed domestic success as a two-time national champion and earned a medal at the Commonwealth Games.
However, he indicated that persistent structural challenges influenced his decision to seek opportunities elsewhere.
