NANCES Suspends Planned Relocation To FCE Eha-Amufu, Grants Governing Council 7-Days To Resolve Crisis

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) hereby wishes to inform all Nigerian College of Education students, stakeholders, and the general public of the outcome of its recent engagements concerning the ongoing industrial dispute at the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu, Enugu State.

Following a series of constructive consultations with relevant authorities and stakeholders, the Association has resolved to temporarily suspend its earlier decision to relocate its National Secretariat to the College in protest of the prolonged disruption of academic activities.

Summary of Recent Engagements
1.Engagement with the Governing Council

The Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu, personally reached out to the leadership of NANCES to brief us on the progress made toward resolving the issues responsible for the crisis. He assured us that concrete steps are being taken to restore normal academic activities within the institution.

2.Recovery of College Properties

On the issue of College properties allegedly in the custody of the immediate past Provost, the Chairman assured us that the appropriate security agencies have been engaged and are actively handling the matter. He further reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to ensuring the full recovery of all College assets.

3.Engagement with the Council of Governing Councils

NANCES has also received an invitation to engage with the Chairman of the Council of Governing Councils of Federal Colleges of Education in Nigeria. We were assured that the matter has received the Council’s attention and that necessary interventions are being made to facilitate the prompt resolution of the crisis and the immediate resumption of academic activities.

4.Engagement with COEASU

In addition, the National President of the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) held discussions with the leadership of NANCES on the situation. During the meeting, he assured us that appropriate directives would be issued to the COEASU chapter at the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu, to suspend the ongoing strike once the Governing Council fulfills its commitments.

Position of NANCES

Having carefully considered the assurances received from all relevant stakeholders, the leadership of NANCES has resolved to suspend its planned relocation to the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu, and to grant the Governing Council seven (7) working days to implement the necessary measures toward resolving the crisis.

This decision reflects our commitment to constructive dialogue and our confidence that the relevant authorities will act in good faith to restore normal academic activities.

We therefore appeal to all NCE students, particularly those of the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu, to remain calm, law-abiding, and patient while the agreed interventions are being implemented.

Our Demands Remain Unchanged

NANCES reiterates its commitment to the following demands:

– Immediate suspension of the ongoing strike and the full resumption of academic activities.
– Complete recovery of all College properties reportedly in the custody of the immediate past Provost.

The leadership of NANCES remains resolute in protecting the welfare, academic interests, and future of Nigerian College of Education students. At the expiration of the seven (7) working days, the Association will review developments and communicate its next line of action accordingly.
