Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State has put an end to the five-year-old wedlock between a couple, Ademola and Nosifat on grounds of irresponsibility, disobedience and constant fight by the latter.
The court also gave an order restraining Nosifat from threatening and interfering with Ademola’s private life.
Ademola, who dragged his wife, Nofisat, to court stated that he did not bargain for what he met in marriage.
The plaintiff explained that the defendant constantly shirked her responsibility towards him and their only child and made life hellish for him.
He also said that he gave N150,000 to start a business, but that she could not account for it at the end of the day.
He, therefore, pleaded for divorce.
Nofisat denied all that Ademola said but agreed to divorce.
She stated that her husband refused to be responsible for her feeding when she moved in with him and that being pregnant, she spent the N150, 000 on food.
The plaintiff in his testimony said, “I met my wife in 2019, and we held a customary wedding after we dated briefly.
“I paid N25,000 as her bride price, and we started living together as husband and wife.
“My expectation concerning marriage was cut short as my wife and I journey into it.
“Nosifat lacks the virtues of a virtuous woman.
“She is dirty, untidy, and never willing to take correction.
“Our home is unwelcoming and gives no comfort.
“We quarell almost every morning because she contributes towards our child’s getting late to school.
“My wife has a caustic tongue and is therefore abusive.
“She has no respect for me and passes insult on me even in the presence of our neighbours and relatives.
“Nofisat is irresponsible and has failed to account for the N150,000 I gave her to start a business.
“My wife regularly causes trouble in our home and was always ready to fight.
“I am tired of a marriage that brings me no joy.”
