A man, Kasali, has approached Grade A Customary Court, sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking that his 29-year-old wedlock to his wife, Muyibat be dissolved on the account of infidelity by the latter.
Kasali told the court that Muyibat, whom he placed all his trust in, started misbehaving about 10 years ago.
According to Kasali, Muyibat became promiscuous and had chains of lovers who paid her visits at home after he got an appointment to work in Lagos.
The plaintiff further explained that one of the defendant’s lovers was a co-landlord living in their neighbourhood.
Kasali stated that Muyibat was always at the man’s house to cook and carry out other house chores.
The plaintiff stated that his neighbours and motor mechanics in their area informed him of his wife’s escapades.
The plaintiff added that the defendant rather than desist from her shameful lifestyle after he warned her got more involved in the affair.
Kasali stated that Muyibat stopped sleeping at home and always spent the night at her lover’s place.
He also said that he returned from Lagos unexpectedly one afternoon and caught his wife with another of her lovers in their house.
Kasali stated that his life was no longer safe with his wife.
He thus prayed that their union be dissolved.
Muyibat did not deny the allegations brought against her.
She stated that the co-landlord was an elderly man and a widower, whom she sometimes ran errand for.
She added that she was surprised that her husband dragged her to court over such an issue because he was the one who abandoned her after he brought a new wife from Lagos.
Kasali, in his testimony, said, “My wife and I have been married for 29 years.
“We started living together shortly after we met in 1996, and I did not pay her bride price.
“We had a beautiful relationship for almost 20 years, and I put all my trust in her.
“My wife misplaced the trust I had in her after she got involved in extra marital affairs shortly after I got a new appointment outside town, Lagos precisely, and I resumed work.
“I was informed by our neighbours and motor mechanics in our area that my wife was unfaithful to me.
“I was told that she was having an affair with a co-landlord in our neighbourhood.
“According to them, she was always at this man’s house almost all day cooking and being in his company.
“I tried not to believe all that was said about my wife because I loved and trusted her.
“I confronted her with this information, hoping that she would deny it, but my wife, to my surprise, admitted paying the man visits.
“She stated that she sometimes helped him with the purchase of things being a widower and living all alone.
“I was mad to hear that from her and warned her to desist from it.
“My wife to my chagrin went deeper in her relationship with her lover.
“She stopped sleeping at home and spent the night with him.
“My wife also dated other men apart from this widower and had the gut to bring them into our home.
“I returned home from Lagos unexpectedly one afternoon, and I caught my wife with one of these men in our apartment.
“My lord, my life is obviously no longer safe with my wife.
“I pray this honourable court to dissolve our union.”
Muyibat responded, “My lord, I do not understand the reason for my husband’s complaint because he abandoned me after he married another wife in Lagos and brought her home.”
“The man in question is an elderly man and a widower.
“I was touched by his condition and tried to help.
“I sometimes helped him in purchasing things since there was no one around to assist him.
The president of the court, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case for further hearing.
