Grade A Customary Court, Court 2, sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has adjourned a divorce suit brought before it by a man, Richard, against his wife, Kudirat, whom he alleged was in the habit of fighting him all the time and beating him black and blue.
Richard also accused Kudirat of refusing to cook for him. He stated that he enjoyed no peace or rest since he got married to Kudirat.
According to him, he came to court after she threatened to kill him. Kudirat was absent in court despite being served with court summonses.
Richard, while giving his evidence, said: “My wife moved in with me shortly after we met.
“We did not carry out any marital rite, and I did not pay her bride price.
“My peace deserted me immediately Kudirat and I started living together as husband and wife.
“She is never pleased with whatever I do and will always complain and nag.
“We always have misunderstanding because she is never reasonable and argues a lot.
“My wife turned our home into a wrestling arena.
“She always finds excuses to fight and beat me black and blue.
“My wife is also in the habit of keeping malice with me.
“She had once kept malice with me for three months and stopped all interactions with me.
“She neglects my welfare and has stopped cooking for me.
“I came to court because she has been threatening to kill me.
“She can one day make her threat real.
“I am no longer interested in my marriage to my wife.
“I pray this honourable court to rule that we are no longer husband and wife.”
The president of the court, Mrs O.E. Owoseni, adjourned the case until June 18 for defence and ordered that a fresh hearing notice be issued and served on the defendant.
