My Journey So Far As Aide To Kuje Area Council Boss, Hon. Shekwolo – Peter Jesse Gives Account

Working with the Executive Chairman, Kuje Area Council, Hon. Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo as a Personal Assistant is not a job, it is a school.
‎
‎Many people think it is all about following the boss with a file, taking pictures, and sitting in the front row with him. It is far more than that.
‎
‎Let me take you through a brief account of my experience so far. I have seen and learned the two sides of power.
‎
‎In public, a politician is always smiling, strong, and in control. In private, you see the pressure. You see the 2 a.m. calls about insecurity, the letters from a widow who needs school fees, and the sleepless nights before a big decision. I have also learned that leadership is heavy.
‎
‎I have equally learned, within this short period, that loyalty is sacrifice.
‎
‎As a PA, my name is not on the poster, but my error can ruin the poster. I have learned loyalty, even when it is not convenient. Of course, it is my duty to defend our leader and principal, even in his absence. This also requires confidentiality. Loyalty, to me, means discipline.
‎
‎Time is no longer mine:
‎
‎My phone must never be off. I sleep with one eye open. Meetings can be shifted, appointments can clash, and you must remain calm while resolving such situations. I have become a master of time, crisis management, and protocol.
‎
‎On a daily basis, I meet all kinds of people.
‎
‎The same office will receive directors, MDs, a beggar, a contractor, and a farmer in one hour. As a PA, I have learned how to manage people without hurting them. I have learned to say “No” with respect and “Yes” with wisdom.
‎
‎It builds you:
‎
‎In just a few months as a PA to an Executive Chairman, I have learned what others learn in many years elsewhere: public relations, conflict resolution, political strategy, and human management. If you are humble, you will grow from a boy to a man.
‎
‎The Truth:
‎
‎Working with an Executive Chairman is not easy. You will be insulted by those who feel you are blocking them from seeing your boss, you’ll be insulted by people who feels you’re doing too much (over do), you will be misquoted, and in some situations, you may not be able to explain yourself, you will be appreciated by some people simply because they love your principal. Sometimes, you will work without weekends.
‎
‎Because my leader is a man who loves our people, listens to them, and prioritizes serving them, every bit of stress is worth it.
‎
‎At the end of the day, I can say this: I have not just got a job; I’m received leadership training that no university can offer.
‎
‎For me, I am learning under a man who chose to be the chief servant of our people. It’s definitely a journey of service, dedication, loyalty & honesty.
