A woman, Tejumola, has brought her husband, Adeyi, before the Grade A Customary Court, Court 2, sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, on the allegation of constant battery and domestic violence.
Tejumola said she had known no peace since she got married to her husband seven years ago. She explained that she and her husband were always at loggerhead.
According to her, if they were not quarrelling, then they were fighting.
The plaintiff added that the defendant always humiliated her both at home and in her shop by tearing her clothes to shreds during fights and leaving her almost naked.
Tejumola, in addition, said that their union was void of trust.
She explained that Adeyi was always monitoring her movements and asking their children if a man brought her home or dropped her in the shop.
Tejumola stated that she derived no joy in her union with her husband and therefore pleaded that they go their different ways.
She entreated the court for their children’s custody but requested that her husband be made responsible for their maintenance.
She also requested an order restricting her husband from threatening and encroaching her privacy.
Adeyi was absent in court on the first day the case was mentioned and on subsequent adjourned dates.
Tejumola gave her testimony, “I met my husband in 2018, and we dated.
“He impregnated me in 2019, and I started living with him.
“I never enjoyed a day in our marriage because my husband and I were always in disagreement.
“My husband is a brute, and we fought almost all the time.
“He would beat me to a pulp and inflict wounds on me.
“He was also in the habit of tearing my clothes any time we fought.
“This was not restricted to the home alone.
“He also came to my shop to humiliate me by beating and leaving me almost naked after tearing my clothes.
“I moved out of my matrimony home to my father’s house in 2024 after we fought.
“He came to apologise to me, and I returned to him, thinking he had turned a new leaf, but this was not so.
“We fought several times after I went back to him.
“He seized my phone during one of the fights and refused to return it to me.
“My husband does not trust me.
“He monitors my movements and queries my activities.
“My husband always asked my children if men brought me home or to my shop, which I find annoying.
“My lord, I want an end to the relationship with my husband. He’s an evil wind that blows no one any good.”
The court president, Mrs O.E Owoseni adjourned the case for judgment.
