The air component of Operation Hadin Kai has destroyed a suspected terrorist hideout in Borno state in an air strike.
Sources told Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, that the operation was conducted in the early hours of July 20 after intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) assets detected suspicious terrorist activities around KLA Balia in the Lake Chad region.
“According to the sources, the ISR platform, codenamed GUARDIAN, established overhead surveillance at about 5:35 a.m. before confirming the target,” Makama said.
“Following positive identification, the aircraft conducted a precision strike on the suspected terrorist hideout.
“Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) conducted immediately after the strike indicated that the building was completely destroyed and engulfed in flames, with all suspected terrorists inside believed to have been neutralised.”
Makama added that the aircraft remained over the target area for a short period to monitor the outcome of the operation before returning to base after completing the mission.
Military sources also told the publication that the operation was part of ongoing air interdiction efforts aimed at degrading terrorist infrastructure and restricting insurgents’ freedom of movement across the north-east.
In another development, GISTSMATE MEDIA reported that the Office of the Minister of Defence on Monday dismissed as false reports claiming that the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), is planning to resign from office, describing the speculation as “malicious” and “entirely fabricated.”
This was contained in a statement made available to defence correspondents in Abuja by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde.
The statement said the rumour, which has been circulating on online and social media platforms, was the handiwork of mischief-makers and should be disregarded by members of the public.
It added that the minister remains fully committed to his constitutional responsibilities and is focused on driving Nigeria’s defence and national security agenda. READ MORE
