Nollywood veteran Pete Edochie has shared a controversial opinion on marriage and leadership in the home.
The actor, while speaking on Bae U Barbie’s Curiosity Made Me Ask podcast, cautioned men against kneeling to propose to their partners.
Edochie argued that kneeling to offer a woman a ring amounts to giving her leadership of the family, adding that men should not allow their wives to ever be financially responsible for the home.
He claimed that such situations can make a man wish for death.
According to him, his advice was based on his nearly six decades of experience in marriage.
He said: “I want you to listen properly. This is wisdom from somebody who has been in that institution for almost 60 years. I have been married for the past 57 years.
“If things change and your wife has to feed you for two or three days, you would want to take poison. The kind of insult that will be heaped on you because your wife is feeding you, don’t ever think about it.”
If you step down on your knee and you offer a woman a ring, you are conceding headship of the family to that woman. I will not take it back” he stated.
His statement quickly sparked mixed reactions with many users disagreeing with his opinion.
