Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed suit challenging refusal of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to register the All Democratic Alliance, ADA for lacking in merit.
ADA had earlier initiated legal proceedings to challenge the non-registration of the party and its eligibility.
While promoters of the association, led by Dr. Umar Ardo, have accused INEC of double standards and initiated legal action, the party has struggled to secure official registration for the upcoming 2027 election cycle.
INEC rejected the registration of the ADA, stating the group failed to meet the necessary requirements for formal registration and that their submission was considered only a letter of intent rather than a formal application.
INEC stated that two different groups claimed the ADA name with conflicting details regarding leadership and addresses, causing confusion.
The ADA has questioned the registration of other parties, such as the National Democratic Congress (NDC), arguing they were registered without meeting the same rigorous standards as the ADA.
Background
In September 2025, INEC reported that 14 associations were cleared for the next stage of party registration, which included the ADA.
However, by early 2026, INEC stated that of 171 applicants, only a few met the final requirements, citing technical failings in the documentation of several groups, including the ADA.
The promoters of the ADA maintain they adhered to all guidelines and have accused INEC of bias, vowing to challenge the registration process.
