A Nigerian man living in Italy has revealed that he has been begging on the streets of the European country for the past nine years while using his earnings to support his family in Nigeria.
In a video making the rounds online, the man compared life in Italy and Nigeria, saying Italy is better despite the fact that he makes a living by begging.
He said: “Italy is better than Nigeria, but I have been a beggar here in Italy for the last 9 years and I have built a house in Nigeria and I take care of my kids and family very well.”
The man’s revelation has generated mixed reactions online, with some users questioning why someone would travel abroad only to beg, while others appeared surprised that begging could provide enough income for him to build a house and support his family.
One social media user also pointed out that the man had mentioned being sick and said they would wait for the continuation of his story before reaching a conclusion.
Another user described his experience as evidence that begging could be a deliberate choice for some people rather than a last resort.
